In 1969, at the age of 5, I moved to Madison with my parents, Joe and Penny Worden, and my older sister, Brigitte Worden Gudz. My father was the new principal at Madison High School.  It was the first year that schools were integrated in Madison County. I was in the first kindergarten class at Madison Primary School and continued my education at Madison Middle School, Madison High School, and finally, Madison County High school.  I receieved my AA degree from North Florida Community College and transferred to Florida State University where I received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I continued my education at FSU and received my Master's degree in Reading and Language.

I taught 2nd grade at Madison Primary School for 14 years before moving to Madison County Central School. I began teaching television production and  computer technology classes at the new school.  I also decided to go back to school again to become a media specialist. Books have always been my passion. I think that I read every biography book in the old middle school library!  In fact, when we moved to MCCS, we were weeding our collection and I found some books that had a library card with "Heather Worden" on it! I'd like to thank Mrs. Nell Dobbs, Mrs. Frances Sanders, Mrs. Doris Murdoch, and Mrs. Kay Kelley for inspiring and encouraging me to follow my dream of becoming a media specialist.  In 2004, after 4 years of online classes at FSU (one class per semester), I received my Specialist degree in Library and Information Studies.

I have been the media specialist at MCCS for the past three years and have loved every minute of it!! I get to interact with all of the students at school. I hope they will fall in love with books the same way  I did as a 4th grader at Madison Middle School.

I've been married to Allen Welch for 28 years and we have two children, Cooper- 23 and Ashlyn- 21.  We also have a lot of pets...one Great Dane, one Black Lab, two Golden Retrievers, and one Peke-tzu!  I enjoy reading, mowing the grass (on a riding mower!), fishing at the river, going to the beach, and spending time with my family.
